This is a post to savour; so interesting. And great photos. Looking forward to learning more. And the less-than-professional mannequins are terrifying.
Anne this is marvellously rich in fascinating historical facts, I can’t even begin to imagine how long it has taken you to compile but thank you... I wait in anticipation for the next chapter!
Thanks Zina! Haha the last bus was two hours late after mechanical issues, but I managed to keep the faith until it arrived. In the meantime sat for a long time across from a babbling brook in a quiet village while swallows made shapes in the sky so I can’t really complain.

Thanks Bea! So glad you enjoyed it, and agreed about the mannequins. Yeesh.

Thank you so much Susie! Definitely the most research I’ve done for a Substack piece yet but it was fun!
Agreed Alexander, this piece is absolutely fascinating, especially from a part of the country I have never visited (there are so many more)
All countries have stories to tell, historical and modern but France, in my humble and perhaps often uninformed, never ceases to surprise an delight!
Super piece, thanks! Very much looking forward to the next one too. There's just so much to learn about this corner of the world.
Thank you, and so ever true!
I never have understood those who say they are bored, there's just so much to learn and discover and share!
Oh wow! Great post and there is so much history. The pictures are awesome, too. And I am glad you didn’t have to hitchhike! How did you get back?!

Lovely photos, Anne. I'm bookmarking this for next trip to the mountains so I can try to spot some of these, up on the ridges!
Excellent!
