This is super news! I kept thinking about whether you'd heard anything following your interview. As Elizabeth said, yours will be very lucky students.
I think it is also great that you have a long goodbye, which is also a form of extended hello, before you do head off. Once spring has sprung, we shall have to meet up - a gentle walk somewhere (probably with Ailsa and Aurélie) seems a good idea, but I'm open to ideas! It is a nightmare getting anywhere at the weekends here at this time of the year--all the ski and snow traffic adds hours to a journey!
Congratulations on your appointment, I am so happy for you, and I really cannot wait to follow along with this new adventure.
Wow, this all sounds so exciting! Congratulations on your new job. A year is a great time to take it all in a last time, reliving something you already did, but also experiencing something new. I am sure the year will fly by faster than you think or want, but it sounds like you have a good plan to make most of this time you have left in the Alps.
Looking forward to more musings and thoughts, Anne! So very interesting, your thought bubbles and how you are going about exploring your environment and everything in it. Ah, les plantes, la nature… c’est fascinant. Bravo, et continue les promenades, la loupe à la main.
Congratulations on the new job. I'll be sorry not to have your Alpine updates. Looking forward to the Magic Mountain one! By coincidence I've picked up the book again in French; I started it in 1980 in the Massif Central spa town of Le Mont Dore, and then life got in the way. There's a really good documentary on Arte, which you can watch in English, French, German etc, which really captures the essence of the book and the mountain. Beautiful photography.
Thank you! Hopefully you will still be getting alpine updates with a small ‘a’ once I move to the Rockies.
Very cool that you’re reading it in French—and I love associating reading experiences with their place. I was so lucky—it was literally a coincidence—that I started reading Magic Mtn just a couple of weeks before visiting Davos, so I got to listen to a few chapters there.
Thanks for the tip on the Arte documentary, I’ll definitely check it out!
Enjoy your final year in Europe and many congratulations on your new job as Professor. The brilliant thing about Substack is that it’s flexible so it can change with your circumstances. 😀
Congratulations! Also, thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge. I’ve learned so much from your always interesting essays and posts. You’re a great photographer too!✌️
Lucky students and colleagues at BYU! I look forward to following your adventures this year.
Thank you Elizabeth!
Super interesting! Congratulations on your new job 🥰
Thank you Hayley!

Many thanks, Alex! I’m fully on board with a spring walk meet up 😁
Congratulations on your new job, Anne! And I'm looking forward to reading about your last year in the Alps.
Thank you Jeffrey!

Congratulations Anne, from one professor to another :) You'll practically be in spitting distance from me!
Thank you Charlie! It’s been fun/informative watching another recently minted professor settle in via your newsletter.
Congrats with the job! I can’t wait to read all your stories and learn more about ecology and plants.
Thank you Aria! I’m so glad to hear that!!

Thank you Yasmin! Yes, very true 👌
Congratulations- but- the inevitable but- the US is now more opposed to ecology than in the last 100 years.
Thank you! Yes, I’m all too aware the timing isn’t great. Here’s hoping things will change for the better.
