Detail Diary, Vol #43
July | houses, holidays, breaths in between
July 2026
Dear friend,
It’s been a full month: I bought a house, moved into it, had two holiday weekends1 with family, and attended a week-long scientific conference. Now I’m sitting in an airport on the way to Berlin for another family vacation.2 Nevertheless there were many small moments amidst all of this hustle worthy of my Detail Diary. Eye candy art and historical architecture in Park City, Utah; mushrooms, half moons, moths, hummingbirds on wires; one more architecture walk in the historic Provo neighborhood I left behind. I thought a lot about houses and homes and made copious notes for a future post. I watched my newly 6-month old nephew gaze at trees and sky and reach hungrily for leaves and thought, same kid, same.
May we all find and hold the wonder of a child new to this miraculous world.

A June-July book post should be coming your way soon…
There’s the 4th of July, and in Utah there’s also the 24th of July, or Pioneer Day, celebrated with as much fervor.
and fretting about how little work I’ve gotten done this month…but we’re not NOT doing this trip.
